In Earth Days' first year it had an estimated 20 million participants, 10% of America's population at the time. Now it draws over 1 billion people from 193 countries every year. Making it the largest public observance event of its kind in the world.

One of the main successes of Earth Day and similar events is that it can bring together groups from across the whole spectrum of environmental action. Groups that otherwise would not protest together. It brings attention to all areas and gives all causes a reason to speak up!
